Tips To Stay On Track

Whether you are just trying to lose weight, are a Bariatric/WLS patient, or just trying to stay with healthy eating, getting regular exercise, and/or making good choices for your life, these are some tips to help you stay on track.

1. Start Now And Start Small.
Don't harp on what you did wrong if you feel off the wagon or harp on things that have happened in the past. Move forward. Stop pushing off starting till tomorrow as you will never start it even tomorrow. You may have the intentions on starting but generally something happens so you keep saying you will start tomorrow. Nothing shows commitment more than starting right away.

If you are struggling to get going on your exercise, start with some basic cardio. Usually after completing this you will want to do more. It's this post workout out that you achieve that you love. It's just getting started and going that is the hard part.

Apply the same struggling philosophy to other things like healthy eating and setting goals. They need to be small goals to achieve them.

2. Lose the Guilt
Do you feel guilty about falling off the wagon on your exercise routine or healthy eating? Or did you gain weight or have some regain?

Remember, weight gain happens. Shift your focus from the past and set your sights on concrete actions. Focus on what you are going to do about it and why it happened. Make attainable, clear goals. Strive for progress not perfection.

3. Consider Help from the Pros
A personal trainer, nutritionist, medical doctor, or even a therapist can help hold you accountable for what you are trying to achieve and the goals that you are making. You can sit down with them and figure out why you gained or regained if that is the issue and what to do about it so the changes you want to make stick.

4. Meal Plan/Prep
Plan out your meals for the week. Starting on Sunday or even Saturday night, plan out each meal for each day. Then start your prep work. This will help you stay on track and prevent you from falling back into old food habits.

Now let's say you have a crazy hectic life and your schedule isn't conducive with meal planning and prep work, try a meal delivery service. Just make sure they are using high quality products as well as healthy that they met your dietary goals and nutritional requirements.

5. Reach out to friends.
Tell your friends and family your goals. You never know they may want to join in with you. They can also help create an environment that is more hospitable to your goals.
